Tyson Gay pushed through injury to steal the show with a 9.78 seconds victory in the 100 metres at the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace, the fastest time recorded this year, and the fastest ever at the venue.

"I'm going to be honest with you, I just run with a lot of determination and a lot of heart," he said.

"My groin was hurting me and I tried to block that out and run as fast as I could in the finals."

British sensation Mo Farah was less lucky. Despite his best efforts in the rain, the double European champion could not control the 3,000m final and American Bernard Lagat claimed victory.

"I came out here, I was a bit disappointed to come second but to get beaten by Lagat, he's a great athlete. It's still great to finish behind that guy," he said.

The 27-year-old took home gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m in Barcelona two weeks ago, in addition to the 17 other medals won by the British team.

The record haul means more people now know who Farah is and want him to do well, but he refuses to let the pressure affect his performance.
