Angelo Taylor and Yohan Blake added to London Samsung Diamond League

Reigning Olympic 400m Hurdles champion Angelo Taylor and Jamaican sprint star Yohan Blake have joined the star-studded line-up set to descend on Crystal Palace for the Aviva London Grand Prix  Samsung Diamond League this Friday.

With more than 40 Olympic and World medallists on show already, Taylor’s inclusion increases the count of reigning Olympic champions competing in the capital this weekend to 13, with ten current World champions also taking part in what will be the 12th leg of the Samsung Diamond League tour.

Taylor lines up in an enthralling 400m competition against newly-crowned British champion Martyn Rooney and World Junior champion Kirani James, and then comes back the next day to run the 400m Hurdles, while Jamaican Blake competes in the 100m against former World record holder Asafa Powell, the fastest man on the planet this year, who he narrowly lost to at the Jamaican Championships.

Joining them in the 100m showpiece event are Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland sprint stars, Mark Lewis-Francis, Marlon Devonish and Craig Pickering, all still vying to join Harry Aikines-Aryeetey - also competing on Friday - for a 100m spot at the IAAF World Championships.

Farah lines up at 3000m

For many this will be the last stop on the athletics calendar before Daegu, and few will relish this more than double European champion and European 10,000m record holder Mo Farah.

The 28-year-old steps down to the 3000m, the distance for which he is British record holder indoors, while Phillips Idowu faces US champion Christian Taylor in his last competition before jetting off to defend the World Triple Jump title he won in Berlin.

World Junior champion Jodie Williams is hoping to build on her double European Under 20 Championships triumph when she makes her debut in her first ever Grand Prix.

The 17-year-old was star of the show in Tallinn last month where she added European Under 20 100m and 200m gold to the World Junior 100m title she won in Moncton last year.

The Welwyn Garden City schoolgirl runs in the 200m which features fellow former age-group World champions, Bianca Knight and Shalonda Solomon.

Oliver Vs Robles in high hurdles

Both sprint hurdles competitions are littered with international and domestic stars as world number one David Oliver, European and Commonwealth champion Andy Turner and reigning Olympic champion Dayron Robles battle it out in the men’s contest, while Olympic silver medallist and current world number one Sally Pearson and newly-crowned British champion and British record holder Tiffany Ofili-Porter meet in the women’s equivalent.

British long jump duo Christ Tomlinson and Greg Rutherford have both been tipped for podium spots in South Korea next month, and they will get a fair reflection of their progress when they take on the world’s top two, Mitchell Watt of Australia and reigning Olympic champion Irving Saladino, as well as reigning World champion and Olympic gold medallist Dwight Phillips.

Fresh from her encouraging performances in the Barcelona Grand Prix and the Aviva UK Trials and Championships last month, reigning Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu faces the two she beat to the 400m crown in Beijing back in 2008; Shericka Williams and Sanya Richards-Ross.

World number one 100m runner and Samsung Diamond League leader Carmelita Jeter returns to her favoured shorter distance after running the 200m at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix, and lines up against reigning Olympic champion and World champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce.
